Project Overview

The Lagos Smart Meter Dashboard is a comprehensive system designed to revolutionize power supply management for administrators and enhance the experience for consumers in the Lagos power grid. The aim is to provide real-time insights, improve operational efficiency, and empower users with greater control over their power consumption.

Lagos is Africa's number one mega city, financial center and economic hub.

Research Phase

Conducted interviews and surveys to understand the pain points of administrators and customers. Discovered challenges in managing power distribution efficiently and issues related to billing transparency.

I analysed data from the interviews and surveys to help inform design decisions.

Design and Prototyping

  1. User-Friendly Interface: Created an intuitive dashboard with a clean and user-friendly design, ensuring easy navigation for administrators.
  2. Real-time Monitoring: Implemented live monitoring features to enable administrators to track power consumption, identify outages, and manage resources effectively.
  3. Customer Empowerment: Developed a customer portal allowing users to monitor their energy consumption, view billing details, and receive real-time alerts.

Development Phase

  1. Responsive Design: Ensured the dashboard is accessible across various devices, providing a seamless experience for administrators on desktops and customers on mobile devices.
  2. Integration of Smart Meters: Implemented a connection with smart meters to gather real-time data on power consumption and facilitate automated billing processes.

Testing and Iteration

Conducted usability tests with administrators and customers to gather feedback. Made iterative improvements based on user input, focusing on enhancing data visualization and optimizing user workflows.

Launch and User Training

Launched the Lagos Smart Meter Dashboard and conducted training sessions for administrators and customers to ensure effective utilization.

Results

  1. Improved Operational Efficiency: Administrators can now monitor power supply in real-time, identify issues promptly, and allocate resources efficiently.
